Excessive Underarm Sweating

sweat cureExcessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is becoming to be quite common nowadays and a multitude of causes have been blamed for it. Many say that it is heredity while some say that it is caused due to the food we eat or even the medications that we are on. A proved cause is that of caffeine and alcohol. Tests have shown that caffeine and alcohol induced sweating in most people. Whatever be the reasons, all that you would want to know is the different ways to prevent sweating. Some of the options available are discussed in this article.

The most common option used to control sweating is to use an antiperspirant. Now let us not confuse between a deodorant and an antiperspirant as both are different in their own terms. Antiperspirants have aluminum salts that are not found in deodorants. The aluminum salts works by blocking off the sweat ducts that cause sweat. By blocking the sweat ducts, antiperspirants stop the sweat from coming to the surface of the skin, thereby controlling sweating. Many people have claimed that antiperspirants cause breast cancer. But this has never been proved so far. But antiperspirants are known to irritate the skin of some people. This happens when the ingredients present in the antiperspirant causes allergy to the skin. If your present antiperspirant is not able to control your sweating, then consult your doctor and request him to prescribe a stronger antiperspirant for you.

Deodorants on the other hand can only eliminate odour and are effective to reduce body odour and deodorants have hardly been reported to cause any skin irritations. This is because the substances used to make antiperspirants and deodorants are different. There are many natural ways and also many counter products that claim and do help to control sweating. But as said before, the results depend on the person who is using it as such products do not work for all. Natural methods are known to be safe and hence can be tried without any concern, but for chemical products it is advised that you get some sort of consultation from your doctot before using them.

Another way to reduce sweating is Botox. Botox injections stop the nerves from triggering sweat glands and this process has been known to be very successful. But do remember that even though botox injections have proved to work well, it can be painful. Another problem is that botox treatment lasts only for 6 to 8 months and you will have to get another shot of botox once the earlier shot loses its effect.

Iontophoresis is another method used to reduce sweating. It is done by sending low levels of electrical current over areas that sweat in excess and this shuts down the sweat glands thereby controlling sweating. This treatment does not involve any pain, but various tests have shown that the effect of Iontophoresis is similar to that of using an antiperspirant. A permanent way to cure sweating is surgery. The sweat ducts were surgically removed to control sweating permanently. But off late surgery is not being used to cure hyperhidrosis due to various reasons.

There are many ways to control sweating and we have discussed only a few methods in this article. Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is treatable and don’t let the issue of excessive sweating continue to control your life.
